Tropic Helicopters operates Hughes 500 C & D models engaged in fish spotting roles in the Western Pacific Ocean region. It is an Approved Maintenance Authority and has a maintenance and operations facility at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands, with a satellite maintenance facility at Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. All aspects of maintenance are carried out, including airframe repair, avionics, engine shop, component overhaul and general servicing sections. The helicopters operate aboard deep sea fishing vessels operating in the Western Pacific Fisheries area. Each boat has a helicopter with a pilot and a mechanic with it on board.
Refurbish/ prepare helicopters for commencement of contracts. Carry out 100/300/600/annual inspections and services. Must be competent at track and balance procedures. Carry out unscheduled maintenance. Carry out random audits of helicopters to determine compliance of seagoing mechanics with HMI servicing and maintenance instructions and company standing orders. Assist the training officer with mentoring apprentices and trainees as may be required.
