Crew Chief

Job Summary The Crew Chief performs flight chief, crew chief, repair and reclamation, and maintenance support functions for Rotary Wing Aircraft. Principal Accountabilities

  • Services, troubleshoots and inspects aircraft structures, systems, components, and related systems
  • Coordinates maintenance plans and schedules to meet operational commitments
  • Supervises and assists in launching and recovering aircraft
  • Reviews maintenance data collection summaries to determine trends and production effectiveness
  • Performs crash recovery duties
  • Performs staff and supervisory management functions
  • Performs pre-flight checks and ensure aircraft meet flight safety standards
  • Ensure aircraft is maintained to flight safety standards
  • Ensure aircraft records are maintained and record all incidents noted in preflight inspection and during flight
  • Ensure that scheduled maintenance is performed on time
  • The employee may be assigned duties as Crew chief, and if qualified Flight Instructor/Standardization Instructor or other additional duties related to flight operations as required
  • FI/SI- Conduct academic and hands-on performance training and administer evaluations to ensure crewmember proficiency and standardization of training in addition to maintaining IATF's and completing required AWIS entries
  • Perform aircraft maintenance as required
  • Perform other administrative task as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must have a FAA A&P Certificate
  • Must complete and pass a FAA Class III Medical Examination
  • Certified military crew chief/gunner with experience and knowledge of helicopter mounted weapons systems and their employment in a high threat environment

Experience & Education

  • Two (2) years experience as a Crew Chief
  • 650 total rotary wing flight hours, and applicant must be Night Vision Goggle (NVG) qualified and have 150 hours of NVG experience
  • Minimum three (3) years experience as a rotary wing aircraft mechanic
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Must possess and maintain a current, FAA Class III Medical Certificate
  • Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to three (3) hours per day and sit for up to five (5) hours per day
  • May be required to lift up to 30 lbs. to the height of 4 feet and be required to lift up to 20 lbs. to a height of 7 feet
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
  • Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs
  • On occasion must be able to lift up to 80 pounds
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders
  • Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depths
  • Must be able to read and interpret hand and type written print instructions
  • Employee will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment, at remote locations, and under austere conditions
  • Will be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft

TravelTravel to and between CONUS and OCONUS locations as requested is required
