Helicopter Hydraulic Maintenance Technician

Job SummaryThe Helicopter Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs hydraulic systems of assigned aircraft. Provides training to and evaluates customer maintenance employees.Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform inspections on hydraulic systems of assigned aircraft.
  • Interpret installation and maintenance policies and procedures related to aircraft hydraulic systems and components.
  • Diagnose re-occurring malfunctions and recommend corrective actions.
  • Diagnose malfunctions, using technical publications, and perform repair.
  • Determine the extent of disassembly necessary to repair or replace hydraulic components.
  • Inspect hydraulic components, using visual inspection methods.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using applicable technical publications and test equipment using dial indicators, feeler gauges, and micrometers.
  • Train customer personnel on all applicable documentation.
  • Evaluate performance of assigned personnel.
  • Conduct and supervise on the job training programs.
  • Train personnel on the use of maintenance manual andcustomer manuals.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven problem solving skills on helicopter hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of layout, drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management systems, maintenance data collection.
  • Knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical data and special operating instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Experience & Education

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Six (6) or more years of recent experience in helicopter maintenance specializing in hydraulics.
  • A & P Mechanic or graduate of a military helicopter maintenance school.
  • Certified on hydraulic systems for assigned helicopters.
  • Previous experience training personnel.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Works part of the time in a normal office environment with, controlled temperature and lighting conditions.
  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical
  • Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable position.
  • Frequently liftsparts and equipment up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.

Travel Limited travel required (Less than 5%)
