Helicopter Mechanic (UH-60)

Job SummaryThe Helicopter Mechanic performs all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements on assigned helicopters. Provides OJT and formal training (as requested).Principal Accountabilities

  • Removes and installs subsystem assemblies such as engines, rotors, gearboxes, transmissions, and mechanical flight controls.
  • Removes and installs subsystem components to include starters, generators and inverters, lights and batteries, pumps, reservoirs and valves, hydraulic cylinders, lines and hoses.
  • Services and lubricates helicopters and helicopter subsystems.
  • Prepares helicopters for extensive inspections and maintenance checks by removing items such as cowling, inspection plates, panels, doors, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Performs limited maintenance operational checks to include APU run-up and scheduled inspections.
  • Assists in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions of helicopter subsystems using special tools and equipment as required.
  • Prepares helicopters for entry into and removal from storage and prepares helicopters for shipment by surface and air.
  • Responsible for ground support equipment and tools maintenance.
  • Uses and performs operator maintenance on ground support equipment and tools required for helicopter maintenance and ground handling.
  • Uses and performs user maintenance on common and special tools and maintains forms and records.
  • Oversees and provides technical guidance to customer personnel performing Helicopter Mechanic duties, including aircraft maintenance, inspection and logbook and record keeping, in all procedures and functions identified above.
  • Evaluates performance of trainees in skill knowledge, compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures and operational policies.
  • Conducts formal technical training for customer trainee personnel in maintenance, inspection, supply and safety techniques using supplied training aids, manuals, and instructional materials.
  • Evaluates progress of trainees at established intervals during the technical training program.
  • Performs maintenance trend analysis and applies production control, quality control and other maintenance management principles and procedures to aircraft armament system maintenance, inspection and shop operations.
  • Assists in determining man hours, personnel, parts and facility requirements to maintain/repair assigned aircaft.
  • Maintains supply economy and discipline.
  • Prepares evaluation, special reports and records pertaining to systems maintenance and related activities.
  • Prepares forms and records related to aircraft maintenance.
  • Signs-off required aircraft forms to clear aircraft for flight on a daily basis.
  • Recommends and administers plans and policies.
  • Perform other qualified duties as required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to communicate fluently in the English language.
  • Basic knowledge of various computer applications such as Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook).
  • Ability to interpret associated technical publications, field manuals, and technical bulletins.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the local language is desirable.

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) or more years experience as a UH-60 Aircraft Mechanic.
  • Prior military experience and training on the assigned aircraft preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Work in a maintenance hangar/outdoor flight line-like environment.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
  • PPE required for most of the work needed.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs,ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
