2017-5110 Join our team of experienced lab engineers
and technicians in the execution of lab projects as a Lab Engineer in the Metal
Lab. You#8217;ll be a part of metallurgical laboratory evaluations and failure
analysis of CH-47 Chinook helicopter drivetrain and rotor system components. Responsibilities:
#183;Use
laboratory equipment to support analyses such as binocular microscopes,
scanning electron microscopes, digital photography, hardness testers,
non-destructive inspection equipment, metallographic sample prep, X-ray
diffractometer, etc.
#183;Document
analysis results in well-structured technical reports.
#183;Interface
with engineers, management, and technical staff.
#183;Learn
how the Materials Engineering group works with other organizations (e.g.
Design, Stress and Test), and operates within a large company setting.
#183;Apply
knowledge of metallic materials including physical and mechanical properties,
analysis of component fractures, wear, corrosion, and chemistry, as well as
microstructure and dimensional evaluations.
#183;Define
requirements for materials, parts and processes used in the manufacture of
products.
#183;Produce
specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts
and processes.
#183;Maintain
compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
#183;Promote
standardization across business activities.
#183;Evaluate
emerging technologies for potential application to business needs.
#183;Develop
and qualify new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements.
#183;Integrate
new technologies as appropriate.
#183;Manage
test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
#183;Conduct
analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts or processes.
#183;Implement
corrective and preventive actions.
#183;Design,
develop, and qualify computer and production systems to satisfy user
requirements.

Qualification:
#183;Good foundation of knowledge of metallic
materials and processes.
#183;Working knowledge of typical metallurgical
analysis laboratory equipment, and be able to enthusiastically learn analysis
skills and procedures.
#183;Comfortable working in various environments
including hands-on laboratory and professional office settings.
#183;Good interpersonal, communication and
multi-tasking skills.
#183;Familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
#183;Strong technical writing background.
#183;Able to apply basic engineering and scientific
principles to determine solutions to technical problems in support of a project
leader.

Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government
contract. 
Education and Experience:
#183;Bachelor's
degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering
classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience
in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an
engineering classification.
#183;Degree(s)
must be in either Mechanical, Civil, or Aero/Astronautical Engineering or related
discipline.
